Director: Harold Ramis
Starring: Jack Black, Michael Cera, Olivia Wilde
In Cinemas: 18 June 2009
Set in the Paleolithic era, hungter-gatherer Zed (Jack Black) eats an apple from the tree of knowledge of good and evil. Believing himself to be The Chosen One, he calls upon the help of his friend Oh (Michael Cera) and together they embark upon an epic quest of enlightenment.
For a comedy, Year One is loaded with few funny moments that are clearly only for people who still think Jack Black is funny. The film plays like a discounted Monty Python but with drab American humour.
Although Michael Cera is a promising actor who offers something very sweet on screen, he manages to luck out with Year One. Combined with Jack Black’s ineffectual labours, Year One doesn’t live up to be half as entertaining as you hope.
